  • Ruling party Awami League sweeps 10th general elections in Bangladesh with three-fourth majority
    • The result of this farcical election were known even before single vote was cast as more than half the seats (153) were won unopposed by ruling coalition due to poll boycott by major opposition parties.
    • Awami league secured 231 seats (127 uncontested) overall in 300-constituency parliament.
    • 8 of the 147 contested constituencies will undergo repolling as balloting was marred by electoral violence and fraud.
    • Main opposition BNP alongwith other opposition parties had boycotted the polls over prime minister Sheikh Hasina's refusal to introduce a non-party interim government to oversee the elections.

  • R Chandrashekhar becomes President of Nasscom (National Association of Software and Services Companies).  
    • He, a former telecom secretary, succeeds Som Mittal as such.
    • Nasscom, a non-profit organisation, is a trade association of Indian Information Technology and Business Process Outsourcing industry. 
  • Eusebio da Silva, considered one of the best footballers in the history, passes away at 71. The Mozambican-born Portuguese forward scored more than 700 competitive goals in his career and won the Ballon d'Or award in 1965.  
  • India's Mahesh Mangaonkar clinches Open du Gard squash title by beating top seed Greg Lobban of Scotland 9-11, 11-3, 11-4, 11-5 in the final of this PSA Challenger 5 event.  
    • He, by virtue of this victory at Nimes (France), now has 3 PSA tour title.
  • Aditya Joshi becomes India’s first male junior badminton player to become 'World No 1'.
