  • India declares itself free from "Bird Flu" or Avian Influenza (H5N1).  
  • 5th Annual World Pneumonia Day observed across the globe on November 12, 2013 urging world governments to increase existing interventions and invest in new diagnostics and treatments to defeat pneumonia. Pneumonia kills more children each year than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.   
    • The disease took the lives of nearly 1.1 million children under 5 in 2012 alone, with more than 99 percent of these deaths in developing countries. 
    • The day is marked by an integrated effort to combat both pneumonia and diarrhoea, which together account for 26 percent of all child deaths globally. 
  • Usha Ananthasubramanian has been appointed the 1st Chairperson and Managing Director (CMD) of Bharatiya Mahila Bank. She was an executive director with Punjab National Bank (PNB) before joining this first ever all-women bank in India. - read more cat
  • Chetna Vijay Sinha, Director of Mann Deshi Mahila Bank and Mann Deshi Foundation, honoured with the India Social Entrepreneur of the Year award 2013 by The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship.  
    • The Schwab Foundation, a sister organisation of the World Economic Forum, gives the awards in collaboration with Jubilant Bhartia Foundation.
  • Bangladeshi golfer Mohammed Siddikur wins the 50th Indian Open golf tournament held at the Delhi Golf Club (DGC), New Delhi. It is his second Asian Tour title after Brunei Open victory in 2010.
