  • ISRO plans to set up a new launch pad, referred as Third Launch Pad, at Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. 
    • The project seek to support increased launch frequency, launching requirements of future advanced launch vehicles and serve as a redundant launch pad for the GSLV MIII class of vehicles.
  • Centre launches "Pharma Jan Samadhan" - a web platform - for redressal of consumers' grievances relating to pricing and availability of medicines. 
    • It will provide consumers and others with an on-line facility to redress their complaints relating to over-pricing of medicines, non-availability or shortage of medicines, sale of new medicines without prior price approval of NPPA, and refusal of supply for sale of any medicine without good and sufficient reason.
    • The online tool - created by 'National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority' - will protect consumers interests through effective implementation of the Drugs (Price Control) Order 2013.
    • NPPA will also initiate action on complaints within 48 hrs of its receipt.
  • Centre rolls out 'Short Code SMS services' for the UAN activated members of EPFO; will help them track their details along with contribution and PF Balance. 


    How to Use:

    • Member will send an SMS in predefined format from his/her mobile number registered during UAN activation.
    • The EPFO on receipt of such SMS will send the members details available with EPFO along with details of KYC seeded, Last Contribution and Total PF Balance.

    UAN or Universal Account Number is a service which provide the users different services such as passbook, monthly SMS of contributions etc.

    • The SMS service will speed up the UAN activation process by the members.
    • The scheme has been launched in 10 languages namely English, Hindi, Telugu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Bengali.
  • NSCI Safety Awards-2014 presented.   
    • 75 Organizations won the honour in four award categories - Sarva Shreshtha Suraksha Puraskar, Shreshtha Suraksha Puraskar, Suraksha Puraskar and Prashansa Patra.
    • This national level awards are given in the field of Workplace Safety, Health and Environment which recognize establishment of effective Safety Management System and excellent safety and health performance by the organizations in Manufacturing, Construction and MSME Sectors during the relevant assessment periods.
    • These Awards are presented every year by the National Safety Council.
    • The National Safety Council - non-commercial, non-profit making autonomous society - was set up by the Ministry of Labour in 1966 to generate, develop and sustain a voluntary movement on Safety, Health and Environment in the country.

    • Sri Lanka is the final stop of his 3-nation tour which began with visiting Seychelles and Mauritius.
    • He will be the first Indian Prime Minister and only the second foreign leader after British Premier David Cameron to visit war-torn Jaffna, where he will hand over some 20000 homes - built with Indian assistance - to locals.
