63rd National Film Awards 2015

The 63rd National Film Awards for the year 2015 were announced on 28 March 2016. The awards would be presented by the Directorate of Film Festivals in an awarding ceremony that will be held on 3 May 2016.

The Directorate of Film Festivals invited nominations for the awards in January 2016. The acceptable last date for entries was until 13 January 2016. Feature and Non-Feature Films certified by Central Board of Film Certification between 1 January 2015, and 31 December 2015, were eligible for the film award categories.

Baahubali: The Beginning (Tamil, Telugu) directed by S. S. Rajamouli was selected as the Best feature film. Bajrangi Bhaijaan (Hindi) directed by Kabir Khan was selected as the Best Popular film providing wholesome entertainment.

About National Film Awards

The National Film Awards is the most prominent film award ceremonies in India. It is considered the Indian equivalent of the American Academy Awards.

Established - 1954.

Every year, a national panel appointed by the government selects the winning entry, and the award ceremony is held in New Delhi, where the President of India presents the awards.
