On 29 May, the Sunrisers Hyderabad were crowned the champions of VIVO IPL 2016 after they won the Final played against Royal Challengers Bangalore at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. This is the maiden IPL title for the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise.

Ben Cutting of Sunrisers Hyderabad was declared the man of the match in the Final while  Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bangalore was declared the most valuable player of the tournament and  Mustafizur Rahman of Sunrisers Hyderabad was declared as the emerging player of the season for the 2016 Indian Premier League.

Indian Premier League 2016 : 

The 2016 season of the Indian Premier League or VIVO IPL 2016 was the ninth season of the IPL a professional Twenty20 cricket league established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007. The tournament was played between 9 April 2016 and 29 May 2016.

Eight teams contested the 2016 season of the IPL. Two teams, Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions, based in Puns and Rajkot were new to the tournament, replacing the two franchises Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, which were suspended for two seasons till 2017.

A total of 60 matches has been played in VIVO IPL 2016. The 2016 season was the first IPL season to use LED stumps.

The number of IPL fan parks, which was 16 during the 2015 season were  increased to 36  (including one fan park in New Jersey).
